Gary Vaynerchuk, social network marketing guru and author of Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion
sits down with me to discuss why NOW is the time for you to get off your butt and cash in on your passion. Gary’s video is a MUST see if you want an eye-opening perspective on what it takes to succeed at what you love.

Gary got me at the eday congres Rotterdam Netherlands. He has a point, oh yeah. The first thing I thought when I saw him? Who’s that man behind the bar that talks so passionaly (is this English?) about wine? How the hell did I know that he was keynote speaker….Well actually that doesn’t matter to him. If the passion is shared then it is good.
Yes! I agree! Thanks for leaving a comment.
Listen to what Gary said about doing what you love. So true. As a marketing consultant, far too often I meet business owners who hate what they’re doing. If that’s you, sell that business now and find something you love to do. You’ll be far more successful when you’re passionate about your work.
I agree! I’m paying ($) for my passion right now but I’m loving every minute of it. You got to do what you love!
Does the book discuss what we should actually do?
Gary hints very briefly that to build WLTV that he spend 20-30min a day making the video, and then spent 17-18 hours a day commenting on peoples blogs, and interacting with the web world (this was before twitter).
Does the book give any more insight into what he did/does/recommends to do for people who want to use his strategy for their passion?
Derek,
Thank you so much for your question.
Yes, the book does give pointers and some links on how to do it.
Contact me at Randy@bookblade.com and I would be happy to share more information about the book.
Best,
Randy Webster
Gary, Nice interview, Crush It will be a huge success. This book is a must read. Crush IT is for all ages, not just the 20-30 year olds. Gary, I believe there is a huge market of 50-60 year old baby boomers who are ready to Crush It. You need to tap into them.
Stephen,
This book does tap into baby boomers as well. Looking forward to seeing you Crush It! Looking forward to hearing from you.
Good interview, congratulations. Speaks for yourself that you pulled it off! In regards to wine and yoga http://bit.ly/4nyyIZ
Thanks Markus. LOL..Interesting site…
Gary, Wicked interview, I am trying to cash in on my passion. For me it is food and wine, the combo of them both, together in synergy. I just find that after I rock out a really good segment, I feel intimidated in that I won’t be able to match the quality. I know the only answer is to get back on the keyboard and hammer out another story, I know I just need to rock it out.
Alex,
Thanks! I love Montreal btw! Just keep going, be yourself and never quit.
As always, great interview Gary.
Re: Derek,
I know you asked the question specifically for Gary to answer – and I’d also like to hear his response – but if I may, I’d like to try and take a shot at answering it.
Step 1: Be authentic.
Step 2: Pump out content.
Step 3: Repeat.
Because the first step is to be true to yourself and your passion, there isn’t a more detailed guide to crushing it. Certainly there will be similarities in how you create your content, or how you reach your audience. And Gary could tell you his weekly routine. But once you start with the steps above you’ll soon realize how small those details actually are.
Nope, I was looking for anyone to answer.
I agree with you, but if you’ve listened to a lot of Gary’s Keynotes (I’m not sure which ones, but I know he’s mentioned it vaguely a few times).. He said specifically that he spent 20-30 minutes (since he’s a really good speaker, and it also went with his authentic/real approach) to make his content.
From there he went out and spent the rest of his days (he said 17-18 hours) interacting with the community.
So I agree that a major portion of it is pumping out really good content (even when your interacting with the community…it’s still content).
But if all you do is make the “really really good/authentic” content, no one will see it unless you put in the time of marketing it.
So that’s what my question was about, the marketing side of it. Even if it’s a rough list of what/how he does it. Do you know what I mean?
I can’t wait for this book to come out. I’ll probably have it finished the night I get it.
Good interview too. I’m glad Gary tweeted about this. Consider me subscribed!
Kevin,
Thanks for your subscription and your comment. You are going to love this book.
Really enjoyed the interview and I can’t wait to read the book.
Gary: When will the second book be released approx?
Great interview! Gary crushes it for sure, and so will anyone reading this important book. I’ve followed him for a while and his story and achievements inspire us to crush it in our own businesses.
Question for Gary V: which social media platform do you like the best and why? Are you fans more Twitter followers than Facebook readers? Thanks again.
I just can’t seem to get enough Gary Vaynerchuk. I’ve already placed my order for the book, I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I already have plans (and a name) for the video blog I will start with the guidance I’ve already got from Gary! great interview, I’m pumped!
Matt,
Best of luck with your blog! Looking forward to you sharing it with us when your ready.
This interview was amazing. I enjoyed and appreciated all subjects that were touched on… I felt lots of motivation. This book is definitely a MUST HAVE.
Thank you Randy & Gary for an exciting & motivational interview. I will read the book! Gary, you’ll get an email when I’m done.
So many people have great ideas & unique scopes of knowledge that they should share with others (and Crush It!) . . . how much we would all learn!
i truly enjoyed the interview. Gary’s passion for what he stands for is why i will be buying the book and i like the fact that the book is short and to the point.
thank you for introducing to a new and exciting book to read. after i read it i might be back to ask questions.
I’m so jealous you already got your hands on the book. I have no doubt my copy will look much like that one. I am dying to know what the thing on chapter 14 says now.
I only recently started paying attention to Gary. I always just ignored him before because I don’t drink wine, so why the hell would I want to watch a wine blog?
But I caught a keynote he did and finally watched to see what the fuss was about. Like so many others, I can’t get enough now. He just makes perfect sense in so many things I was trying to put my finger on. The first 2 vids I saw just made everything I was trying to figure out so clear.
Great interview. I have not heard of your blog before, but I am subscribing now. Your passion for the book was showing through and I hope you do very well. I didn’t even know Big John McCarthy had a twin brother, either.
James,
There is no chapter 14 but I’ll tell you, the reason why I’m so passionate about this book is because of the principals behind it. It is about true passion. Let me know what you think after you read it. Thanks for your subscription and I love the Big John comment lol!
The part he’s talking about at 22:10 that you marked. Sounded like he said Chapter 14 or “wherever the hell it is”. That’s the part I mean.
James,
My bad…your correct, he did say chapter fourteen, but its chapter ten- make the world listen. This chapter is where he shows how to turn a topic into a profitable business. He pulls together all the tools and concepts discussed in the book to build a business around something really fun and exciting. Gary cares so much about people that he actually gives out his email address just in case you have questions. The guy is unlike anyone I’ve ever met. But you will see that for yourself. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again…Randy aka Big JM!
Excellent interview. Gary is very inspiring. Can’t wait to read the book. Keep Crushin’ it!
Thanks Ian!

Randy – First time on your site…awesome. I’m a book nerd so I’m adding it to my feed. I agreed with your point when you said “thank you” for it being a short and quick read.
Gary- I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of Crush It! Do you go into any specifics of taking those passions you have and finding ways/creating new ways to monetize from them in the book? If so, what types of ways can we expect to hear?
I am almost done with the book and will be doing my own video review in the next few days. It is awesome – it’s a moving book, and what a great thrill to have him here on Book Blade.
Yes,Facebook,Twitter and all these social networks have taken us all by storm! I found my schoolmates from 1st and 5th grade on FB!
