We are committed to “Educating the world one book at a time”

About BookBlade

Let’s talk about books. What are the life lessons you learned from a book?

The people who write books and the people who read books have one thing in common: We LOVE books!

BookBlade is about finding the common ground between writers and readers.

I love talking to authors and finding out why they wrote their book, how they approached it, and what they hoped to make happen as a result.

I also like to talk to everyday people about any book that has made a difference to them. When you know how a book has affected one person, you’ll know what to expect if you read it for yourself.

So, people have asked me, “Where is this site headed? What’s it all about?” The answer is anywhere we want it!

Keep checking back, and help us create a great place to talk about the books that have changed YOUR world.

No matter what challenge you’re facing, there is always a solution.

The solution begins with literacy.

Reading and discussing books is key to improving your own literacy and helping you navigate your own journey of discovery.

My own journey of discovery:
I was functionally illiterate until the age of 21. Y’know…like most laid-back kids growing up in today’s public schools. Because of my experience, BookBlade is committed to educating the world one book at a time. Here’s our first completed project.

My real education started when I found myself with a lot of time on my hands as the owner of a small limo service in Los Angeles. A couple of years in, I sold my share of the business to a partner and went to work full-time for one of my favorite clients, Eddie Murphy. As his driver/assistant for nearly 20 years, I not only learned about trust, success and the value of relationships but the importance of being generous and giving back to society.

Working on films gives you a lot of down time spent in cars, on airplanes and on location. I took advantage of all that time by devouring business and self-improvement books. I called it my ‘Harvard from the Car’ program. My reading list included all the great business classics plus all the hot books during the past 20 years.

I started applying what I learned in my own personal life through investments, real estate deals and personal growth. As a result, I’ve had some big successes and some monumental failures.

My goal with this site is to create a place to share experiences and ideas with people about their favorite authors…and to learn from the authors that have helped me and others along the way.

Early on, I met and married Charisse Hewitt, another member of Eddie’s team. She still works for Eddie all these years later. In Hollywood, it is extremely rare for a celebrity/assistant relationship to last this long. It’s a tribute to Eddie’s values, (and his smart hiring decisions) that we still enjoy our trusted relationship with him and the network of his associates.
